To reach the king in his chambers, one needed to first approach the secretariat and book an appointment for Yechidus… Waiting time was on average three or four months, due to the number of people looking to enter the Rebbe’s room and meet with him face to face and soul to soul.
It wasn’t so rare that some tried to “skip the line” and take a shortcut to approach the Rebbe for a quick answer or urgent Bracha (not via a secretary). They would wait for the Rebbe on the street so, when the Rebbe came by foot from his home they would be able to approach him, or in later years when the Rebbe came by car, they would wait there, and the king would great everyone with a glad and smiling face.

One day, the Chassid and Ba’al Chesed Rabbi Avrohom Parshan, needed to give the Rebbe an urgent note, not wanting to approach the Rebbe just like that, he sent over a child on the mission… In picture 1 we see the child running over to the Rebbe. In picture 2 he hands the tzetel over to the Rebbe, who read it on the spot. And in picture 3, Rabbi Parshan can be seen standing behind awaiting the Rebbe’s response…

HaGaon Rabbi Chaim Yitzchok Pupko from Flatbush would come quite often to 770 and speak with the Rebbe in learning.

Reb Zalman Jaffe speaking with the Rebbe. This was a frequent scene outside seven seventy. During the conversations, which often lasted for several long minutes, the Rebbe was always seen with unusual pleasantness on his face while taking to Reb Zalman. ■
