The Rebbe in #1164, D'var Malchus

26 Nissan 5751 − April 10 1991 (2)

At this talk, the Rebbe directed long moments of the talk to the recent events of the Persian Gulf War, which he announced to be the harbinger of the ultimate Geulah. The Rebbe remarked that these miracles are so great that “we should have not been embarrassed to dance in the streets from sheer joy!”

On Purim of this year − “a year when I will show you wonders” – victory was declared by the nations of the world

And his downfall was announced, but in a manner of “to strike,” (not “to kill”), meaning, that Iraq and its leader were not completely destroyed, but they surrendered and remained subdued by the coalition forces.

The significance of this fact is that it indicates to a much greater extent the transformation of the world to good (one primary factor of the Geulah). — Even a vicious force like Iraq conceded to the forces of good, without having to be removed from existence!

The concession was so total that Iraq accepted all the terms presented to it. Iraq immediately announced that it would accept all UN resolutions, and later that month agreed to all the terms included in the UN Security Council resolution.

It was particularly non-Jews (“their firstborn”) who reprimanded and humiliated him, compelling him to regret his actions until then.

He was forced to admit and take responsibility for his depraved actions, and then to accept and fulfill all the commands, instructions and requirements that were given to him by “their firstborn.”

These terms included to release some of the prisoners of war and also to comply with the other things they demanded of him.

This process of prolonging his censure and disgrace by “their firstborn” in the United Nations continued throughout the month of Nissan, and within the month of Nissan itself, during Pesach, “the time of our liberation”:

During the days of Purim and immediately afterward, it still wasn’t known how things would progress; to what extent he will be shamed and penalized, how strong he would remain, how much damage he will have to admit to and repay, and if he would accept all this willingly, or if others would have to enforce it.

בְּימֵי הַפּוּרִים וּלְאַחֲרֵי זֶה הָאט מֶען נָאך נִיט גֶעוֶואוּסְט וָואס וֶועט זַיין דֶער הֶמְשֵׁך, וִוי וַוייט מְ’וֶועט אִים מְבַזֶה וּמַזִיק זַיין, וִוי שְׁטַארְק עֶר וֶועט בְּלַייבְּן, וְויפְל עֶר וֶועט דַארְפְן מוֹדֶה זַיין אוּן אָפּצָאלְן, אוּן וִוי עֶר וֶועט דָאס אַלְץ אָננֶעמֶען, אָדֶער דָאס וֶועט זַיין דוּרְךְ אַנְדֶערֶע;

However, afterward, in the the month of Nissan, during the days of Pesach“their first born” came out with a strong reprimand, a conclusive resolution and strong demands (in addition to the previous instructions) on how Saddam must conduct himself, and also resolutions to ensure he would fulfill these terms:

Namely, he should free the captives, return land and property he took, and pay reparations for the losses and damages that he had caused until now (as well as for what he had done previously).

In the course of the month, through the last days of the month, the miracle increased even further − he agreed to all terms with no resistance or war, to the point that he also revealed sums of money and properties which he had hidden (of which no one knew until now).
