I dont think modern warfare can be discussed without a historical context, of war in general i mean. certainly there must be some parameters as to when war is justified. once those parameters are met, i dont think a nation fighting for its survival should worry about feelings of guilt or disapproval from any other nation or entity.
The blogger had written:
If you protest against the missile attacks on southern Israel and support Israel’s right to defend itself, then you still must question the value of large-scale assaults on Gaza, which will likely include civilian casualties (death and injury are both counted), the promise of increased anti-Israel sentiment within Gaza (along with communities around the globe), and the likely revival of rocket attacks within a year or two. You have the responsibility, even while defending Israel, to scrutinize its decisions and its actions in an attempt to understand why such potent anger against it exists.

Orli Matlow As much as I appreciate the passion people choose to display on Facebook, and first amendment rights, Facebook is not the medium for a policy debate on a centuries-old conflict. This post was to quell the fervor evident on the News Feed by extolling the virtues of a substantial, nuanced discussion. I wish my Friends would stop sloganeering because it compromises the depth of the issue and integrity of the argument.

Josh Garbe Can u say that again layman's terms? I don't know what sloganeering means. You're too smart for me!

Orli Matlow That's exactly my point. Warfare is above laymen's terms

Eric Grossman I don't think this can be qualified as a nation fighting for its survival. Palestinian rockets have done property damage, but few deaths have been the result. Clearly it's a problem, and I don't contest Israel's right to defend itself. But, the discourse needs to change. That is my primary criticism. Will this war truly change things, truly solve the problems that are the cause of rocket attacks? I ask you.

Boruch Merkur Israel is a sheep among a pack of wolves. Showing weakness is fatal. Historically, Eric, war has meant bringing the enemy totally out of play. Although that may seem inhumane to the extreme, you can see the effect it would have on precluding future rocket attacks, at least in that sphere.
